CEO & Managing Architect

Architect Ejaz Ahed received his architectural training from the renowned Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago

He went on to work with the Chicago office of Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM) on major buildings design experiences that would shape his philosophy. Returning to Pakistan in 1974 and at the young age 0f 25 he became the CEO of Pakistan Environmental Planning and Architectural Consultants (PEPAC) in charge of setting up the office and working on major building and town planning projects in Sind such as the 8000 acre Pakistan Steel Township. In late 1977 he joined the architectural practice of ‘Ahed Associates’, a firm managed by his father and became its CEO in 1978 a position he still retains. He has gone on to design major institutional and office buildings and major corporate interior design works. His firm won the national design competition for the 1.5 million sft. City Hall project for Islamabad, Pakistan. In 2010 his firm won the US based SCUP (Society of College and University Planning) 2010 Merit Award for “Excellence in Design” of new Campuses, the first ever to be won by a Pakistani promoter and Pakistani design firm. His work has been published in the “Atlas of World Architecture” by the Phaidon Press, UK, the only entry selected from Pakistan. He has lectured on subjects of professional interest to academia and public including a lead role in promoting sustainable development . He is involved in education, extensive social work and has also served the profession of architecture in numerous capacities through the Institute of Architects, Pakistan and as Honorary Secretary to Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) and represented Pakistan at numerous Asian Forums. He served for 14 years on the Governing Body of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Center, thrice served as President of a Rotary Club, served as President of the Institute of Architects Pakistan between 2007-2009 and presently serves as a Member Governing Body of the 700 bed Liaquat National Hospital Karachi, and is a Trustee with the Foundation for the Museum of Modern Art (FOMMA) Pakistan.

KHALID HASAN 

Principal Engineer

Khalid Hasan received his Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Civil Engineering in 1972 and his Master of Science degree in Concrete Structures and Technology in 1974;

Khalid Hasan received his Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Civil Engineering in 1972 and his Master of Science degree in Concrete Structures and Technology in 1974; both from Imperial College of Science and Technology, UK. He began his professional career as a structural engineer with the office of Professor. Dr-Ing Erich Lackner in Bremen Germany in 1972. From 1974 to 1986 he worked as a structural engineer and Resident Engineer with the consulting engineering firm of Scott Wilson, Kirkpatrick & Partners, UK. Khalid joined Ahed Associates as Principal Engineer in 1986 and since then has overseen the coordination and project management of all the major projects of the firm including coordination with numerous overseas partners. He is Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, London, U.K., Graduate of the Institute of Structural Engineers, U.K., Registered with Engineering Council, U.K., Chartered Engineer, Member of the Institute of Engineers, Pakistan, Registered with Pakistan Engineering Council and Director, American Concrete Institute, Pakistan Chapter.

MEHDI ISMAIL 

Senior Coordinator

Mr. Ismail obtained his A. E. (Power-Tech) Engineering Diploma from Karachi Polytechnic Institute in collaboration with Oklahoma State University, USA 1963.

Mehdi Ismail began his engineering career as an Application Engineer in the Carrier Division (Air-conditioning) of Ali Autos Ltd in Karachi. From 1977 to 1985 he served as Senior Mechanical Engineer with the Aga Khan University Hospital during which time he was seconded to Turner International of USA for the Nursing Complex at the Aga Khan University Hospital from 1977 to 1980 and then to the Payette Associates design team for the main Aga Khan University complex from 1980 – 1985. In 1985 he joined Tourism Promotion Services Pakistan Ltd as Technical Manager of their Construction Division, responsible for the Serena Hotel projects in Faisalabad and Quetta. Mehdi joined Ahed Associates in 1988 as Senior Building Services Engineer and has since been responsible for the building services coordination for all the projects executed by the office.
